Hamilton vs. Jefferson: Polar Opposites

Hamilton

Picture
Hamilton believed that we should remain neutral to all foreign affairs especially the French Revolution because we don't have the resources to fight in the war. Even Jefferson thought that the U.S. should stay out of the French Revolution but the difference between Jefferson and Hamilton was that Hamilton wanted Washington to declare publicly the the U.S. remains neutral. Hamilton also found the British to be superior allies over the French. Hamilton liked English society as he thought it was a more formal and proper society. Hamiliton believed that England was superior to the French

Jefferson

Picture
Prior to becoming a member of Washington's cabinet, Jefferson was an ambassador to France. There, he came to love France and its people. During the French Revolution, Jefferson strongly supported France's rebellion against the monarchy there as he despised it. He believed that government whether in the United States or in France should be in the hands of the people rather than one man. However, he did not support joining the French side in the war as it could cause problems for the whole country. Jefferson strongly believed like Washington that the country should stay out of entangling affairs as that can lead to problems for the country. Jefferson also strongly was against Britain and the British government. Jefferson believed that France was better to have relations with than Britain.
